Many excellent discussions here about T1 management and how we use insulin. What we do not talk about is a purpose for our basal settings. It concerns me when there appears to be an emphasis on basal settings for glucose management in the carbs we consume. We need to remember our bodies need insulin for other purposes as well, and simply decided to say something about that.
“ Circulating insulin also affects the synthesis of proteins in a wide variety of tissues. It is therefore an anabolic hormone, promoting the conversion of small molecules in the blood into large molecules inside the cells. Low insulin levels in the blood have the opposite effect by promoting widespread catabolism, especially of reserve body fat.”
Am hopeful those more scientifically knowledgeable will help me expand and remind us of the other uses for insulin.
