Retinal Screening

Went for my first retinal screen yesterday. It was pretty weird. As with most of my other diabetes related appointments, I was the youngest and most mobile person there. My mum reckons that it’s a positive sign that there are so many older people there - shows that it doesn’t shorten life, but when I see the state of them all with the complications they’ve all got it hardly has that effect.

As for the screening itself, there’s not many more surreal experiences than having drops put in your eyes and photographs taken of the back of the inside of your eyeball in the back of a van in a parking lot.

Oh well, hopefully it’ll be easier next year…
