Round the World with Diabetes

Hi everyone!
I just wanted to let you know about a journey I’m about to take…

I’m a Type 1 diabetic and a writer (my first novel was published in South Africa in 2007 and just published in the USA), and together with my partner Mark Peddle (who is a photographer), I’m about to embark on a 9 month trip around the world, spreading positive diabetes awareness. We want to show that just because you’re diabetic doesn’t mean you can’t follow your dreams…
I thought you might like to check out the website -

I’m also very open to tips if anyone has any!
Thanks a lot

Sounds awesome!! Do you have FRIO packs?

Just read your itinerary. Looks like an amazing journey!
Enjoy!

I have a thing called CoolCare which I think is the South African version of a FRIO? Keeps cool for 3 days if you freeze it first? How long do FRIO packs last? Maybe I should import some before I leave…

Just interviewed a couple who have travelled all over the world (the husband is diabetic) and have loads of tips - check it out at http://justtheplanet.com/sweet-life/2009/07/15/been-there-done-that-part-1/
So inspiring!!

The nice part of Frio is that it is activated with only water! It lasts about 3 days from the first time you soak it, but to re-activate it, you just need to sprinkle some water on it. I love them and use them a lot!

It is not as cold as an ice pack, but cold enough for the insulin. I am amazed how cool it stays every time I use it.
