I have noticed the last few lows I have that I shake even more afterwards.
I will be shaking a little, so I check my level and see that I’m low. So, I correct with 15g of carbs (normally g-tabs or box juice) and 10 minutes later I’m shaking even more, but my level will be rising. After about 15 minutes the shakes begin to subside…
Has anyone else had this happen or know what might be the cause for this? It makes me want to correct again, but I can’t b/c it will go too high. Any words of wisdom? Thanks!
yeah. i’ve only been low (less than 60) about 5 times (i was diagnosed 6 months ago), but… usually everytime, i’ll be shaky for at least another half an hour after i correct. at my lowest (43), i was shaky for at least an hour after. i think it takes a while for your body to get back into the swing of things. i’ve heard people say that it takes at least a day to recover from lows.
thanks! i wasn’t too worried about it, but i’m glad to hear it’s a normal thing!
It happens to me, but I thought it was for a different reason. When my sugar goes really low, really fast, I break out into a sweat. After I’ve treated it and my sugar is back to normal, I usually wrap myself in a blanket because I’m cold and shivering.
Makes sense if you think about it – when it’s 100 degrees out, your body sweats in an attempt to lower your body temperature. So sweating due to hypoglycemia should also lower your body temperature, only this time getting too cold to the point where you shake and shiver. That’s how I’ve always rationalized it.
Then again, Dave’s response is a bit more scientific. Mine is just some screwy theory I came up with… but its enough to convince me.
same thing happens to me, but i know it takes me a good 15 minitues for me to recover from a low. If it helps eat a snack then check 15-20 mins later and see how you feel. It might also be your body isn’t use to the low number your at. I’ve felt low at even normal numbers because i was trying to get my high numbers down. Good luck.
