Sedation and t1,am I overreacting?

My biggest problem with the propofol is that I wake up before I’ve had a good nap. I keep telling them to let me sleep for a couple hours, but they wake me up after about 20 minutes with either a colonoscopy or endoscopy. Shucks, you ought to be able to get a good nap for what they charge.

But I haven’t had any problems with the anesthesia or sedation I’ve had in the last 10 or more years, even when it was Versed. And I’ve had everything from twilight to full-under 8 times in the past year.

But one thing I always do is to give the gas-passer a lesson in how to use the pump while in the prep room. And I have a set of written instructions I give them that says specifically what to do if I go high or low, including what kind of insulin to use and how much if I go high, and how many grams of CHO if I go low. On two occasions, I was asked to give an impromptu in-service training session to the OR staff while I was waiting for my turn to go under. Now, THAT was weird!
