Does any body use these setting? Are they working for you?
I use Sleep as scheduled every night. I sometimes use exercise mode, especially on bike rides. I don’t think any of the C-IQ modes are perfect, but they work fairly well for me.
I use sleep mode almost exclusively, 24/7. I love Control-IQ with the sleep activity enabled (and after I figured out the appropriate settings), but find default Control-IQ disappointing.
I just use exercise mode occasionally. My default profile is already set to include my normal periods of high activity, and other intentional exercise is generally after meals when I’m trying to bring a spike down, so I don’t desire a higher target. When I do use exercise mode , it needs to be set at least an hour in advance to give BG a chance to rise beforehand, and I usually need to use it in combination with a profile switch. I use my half-rate reduced profile in addition to exercise mode… Otherwise, just like default Control-IQ, I find it to be “too little, too late”.
I have 3 primary profiles I switch between, and let Control-IQ modulate basal delivery delivery from there. “IQ” is my default 100% profile with tested and vetted settings, and then “low IQ” is 50% of that, and “high IQ” is 150% of my default. So basically, I have to “get stupid” if I’m going hiking or skiing, and I’m “feeling brilliant” when I’m sick or hormonal.
Sleep schedule from 11 pm to 7 am works great! Wonderful flat line, usually.
Exercise mode on its own does not seem to do much for me. I still bottom out like crazy and need lots of snacks. But if I’m doing something more demanding, I use an alternate personal profile, running the basal around 50% of my normal profile, with higher correction and lower insulin to carb ratios that seems to be better than the normal profile.
I use sleep every night and it works well.
I find exercise mode to be mostly useless, even if I put it on an hour ahead of time and also even if the exercise is fairly leisurely, such as walking the dog. I use an alternative profile. Before I got around to setting that up I would turn off ciq altogether and put in a temporary basal rate. That was similar to how I handled exercise with my MM pump before I switched to tandem.
I use sleep mode a lot because it lowers the target.
But it will not bolus while in sleep mode so doing that at night is fine because you aren’t eating. If you are very good at dosing for meals, you can stay in sleep mode all the time.
I never tried exercise mode but I’ve read that it adjusts your target higher and also will not bolus.
I also use both. Sleep mode has been heavenly! I sleep through the night with no alarms!
I also use the exercise mode 2 hours before I leave work. My walk home is uphill most of the way and I run lower in the evening, so exercise mode helps keep thing in line.
These might not work for everyone but I always feel, it can’t hurt to try them and see if they can help. Everyday is an experiment when you have diabetes!
Amen, Sally, I use both and they work for me. And you are so right, what works for me might or might not for others. We are not machines but unique biochemical beings.
I used exercise when I taking long walks or just walking on the treadmill. When I run,. It is less effective.
Tandem probably did not take in consideration that different exercise does not affect BG the same.
