Some days you just can't win

Today, specifically this last past hour, have been bad. I am having to call the PI’s I interviewed with for post-doctoral positions and tell them that I am going to med school. I was supposed to call the PI at 4. I was planning on calling at 4. The problem is that 4 isn’t the correct time. I completely forgot about…

oh sufu, you are way too hard on yourself. We try to do the best we can. I am sure the recipients of your news were upset that they did not get you and the med school got you. That is the bottom line, not the time of the call or the pronunciation or the mispronunciation of their name. As a good friend of mine used to say to me, “Put the baseball bat back in the closet.” Yes, we do feel bad when we don’t do what we are supposed to do, and then we remember that as humans we are not supposed to do everything perfectly. It helps me to hear you lament, because I share your proclivity to self criticize. Sometimes I do it endlessly.
