No need for a modification. I’d have said much the same.
EDIT. Just saw your later post. I always install an old xmitter into the soaking sensor because I like keeping the contacts pristine.

Dave44 are you using a G6 - how do you remove the old transmitter without breaking the new sensor ?
I use the G5 but it is trivially easy to remove a xmitter from a G6. Use a Contour Next strip to release one tab, then the other. there are videos on line. it’s a piece of cake.
100% After a couple of sensors that took their sweet time to settle down and start working with accuracy without prompting me for repeated calibrations or temporary sensor errors which caused loss of sleep, I start them in the mid-afternoon.
I also “soak” the new sensor 4-6 hours before starting a new session which seems to lessen the inaccuracies and calibration issues.
