REALLY??? How about what UTIFREE posted?
Just want to mention that when I followed Dr. Bernsteinās advice he did not want his diabetic patients to take statins. He really disliked statins and would only prescribe them if absolutely necessary. I havenāt read his website for 3 yrs, so he might be prescribing them now. I have no idea.
Well, I guess 35 million people didnāt take Bernsteinās advice.
I sure didnāt
Whoa dude, maybe this convo is getting to be a bit much for you? The thing is, youāre coming at both me and @katers87 like we were the ones who said that. We didnāt. Youāre also making personal attacks at us now, when weāve been pretty clear that we are either talking about only how some people might not be a good fit for statins or our own personal experience.
Also for what itās worth, the millions of people taking a drug says nothing about its efficacy or safety. For example, I donāt know the exact stats, but probably millions of adults take baby aspirin preventatively, and that has been recently shown to not only not be helpful, but possibly actually harmful. Iām in no way saying thatās the case with statins (again, as said previously, I think for many people they are a very good idea), but repeatedly citing that 35 million people take them doesnāt really prove much of anything besides the fact that people think they work.
aspirin was touted for many years as a mild anticoagulant. to bring that up in a convo about statins is so off-the wall. I donāt like to discourage people from having an open mind when then talk to their doctors about drugs. Iām not telling anyone they should/must take a statin, but to SPEAK WITH THEIR DOCTORS about it.
It seems to me this minority is quite vocal, as it somehow bolsters the validity of their ideas, or stance when weighed against the majority opinion. Sort of like when activist demonstrators think that trashing a city is going to effect positive change that they are clamoring for. I think itās best to let cooler heads look at the pros and cons rather than giving in to mob mentality.
Iād actually be surprised if everyone else that commented on here had opinions that were substantially different from yours.
My only opinion on the subject that seems to differ is that a statin may not be right for everybody with diabetes. I made that statement following your comment that it was foolhardy for anyone with D to not be on a statin.
The discussion has become unproductive. Itās being closed temporarily.
