Cathy, you are about my weight now. I used to weigh 280. I’m so happy to be in the 170’s. You may have gained weight, but you aren’t up to where I was. Meds can make it so hard.
On my blog I have a post about how when I started metformin again in order to eat fruits, that my carb cravings came back with a vengeance. I don’t know if it’s something about the drug or it causes something in my body to happen because that’s the way it has to work. But I had to get into a mental warrior mode against the side effects.
Don’t give up! It sounds like you are doing really well on your diet - getting lots of good stuff. Diabetes is a challenge and it’s not your fault! It’s also not fair! Absolutely not fair. But you seem like a really smart, eloquent person who obviously has taken the wise steps to find resources and support. There are so many here who know exactly what you are going through.
It can take some time before you figure out what will work for you that is do-able. When I went from 280 to 205 it was because I was trying everything - I tried tons of eating plans and diets. Raw food is what worked for me, but it’s not the only way. Like Rick said, Weight Watchers works for him. I have a really large forum on Diabetic Mommy and many of the mommies have great success with Weight Watchers. It’s a really nice plan. It didn’t work for me personally because I’m bad at tracking and counting stuff up. I’m a pretty unorganized person.
You don’t look 171 in your picture. And I wish I had your cat-like eyes and beautiful hair. Cat is a good name for you by the way lol. I don’t wear 175 well, your one of the lucky ones. I’m just happy to be trudging along taking it one day at a time and doing my best, seeing what works and what doesn’t. I wish you the best of luck and send lots of good vibes to you.
