Since going on the pump 2+ years ago, I haven’t seen much of a decrease in my a1c (except once). My blood sugars are much better than when on MDIs so this is very frustrating for me. One thing I’ve noticed with my dexcom is spikes after eating … sometimes not too bad but other times going close to 240 an hour after I eat. I’ve tried bolusing before I eat instead of after and really haven’t seen a signifcant difference. My thought went to trying symlin. Am I correct in thinking that this is supposed to help with those spikes? I definitely do not want to be taking a separate injection nor do I want to feel nauseous and/or bloated but would be open to considering it if it will help. Can anyone offer any experiences with symlin?
I’m sure this has been brought up already so do I apologize if this is repetitive
Hi Stacey,
I’ve been on symlin for a couple of months. I had exactly the same spike you mentioned. Symlin has helped me immensly in that regard. I’ve even blogged about it a couple of times at Symlin and jumping the shark. Jason also has a couple of guides posted over on his page. Part 1 and Part 2
It is an injection with meals. I take it with my bolus 20-30 minutes before I eat. I did experience nausea with it, but it faded after a couple of weeks. Also check out www.symlin.com there is decent explanation of how it works…
Good luck!
