I got medically induced T1 from one day to the next at the age of 59. Was a rare side effect of an immunotherapy drug for cancer.

Weeeellllll, I did go to Disneyland on our Senior Class Grad Nite trip in 1983, only 3 1/2 years before diagnosis, and only about 1 month before the sudden onset of the basil allergy!

If you are diabetic regardless of type and continually learning more about diabetes then you are the sane one. The “normals” as you call them are the ones who tell me, “Go ahead and have a donut. One won’t hurt.”
I’m type 2 but recently started on MDI after 28 years since diagnosis. I feel like I have a foot in both camps now.

That may be the correct reason. As a type 2 I know that illness like the flu spikes my BG. With a majority of the beta cells destroyed having the flu may be the tipping point causing BG to soar with DKA a real possibility.
