TED Talk - E-patient Dave

I dunno if you've seen this, but it's a talk by a guy about how using the Internet and online communities helped him to get the best treatment possible for his cancer.

E-Patient Dave

It reminds me a lot about TuD, and makes me think that the large number of online medical support communities exist because patients are frustrated with their doctors. And of course we have a much larger investment in ensuring we're getting the best health care than any doctor, no matter how caring and educated, will ever have. I think we've all also realised that there's a lot of daily living stuff that's just not written about in medical textbooks - things like dizziness, sight changes and weight loss - but people who have lived through it know it intimately.
