This is a surface-temperature measurement system intended to check for “hot spots” on the soles of one’s feet. The premise is that increased surface temperature could signal potential foot problems that could, if untreated, lead to amputation.
While a number of foot injuries (e.g., blisters and corns) are friction-initiated, I get the impression this is just another gimmick aimed at separating us from our money.
