Do all words need to be in the English language? (Honestly not trying to be difficult here.)
At the top of the topic are the rules. Words need to be in the official scrabble dictionary. Many words from languages other than English have crept into English over the years such as adroit or lingua from French and Latin respectively.

moped (a.k.a. “mobilette”; for some strange reason I’m feeling a little French today)

mowed
Is ‘mowed’ allowed? (Required two changes from ‘mopeds’)
If not:

If yes:
cowed
It looked to me like they both posted at the same time, both legit in response to “moped”
If “cowed,” then mine would be
cowled
–because I’m so over the “s” thing 
scowled
