Too Much of a Not-So-Good Thing

As with most Old Schoolers, I’ve accumulated a large stash of diabetes supplies over the years. Now lancets have taken over my hall closet. I keep all my diabetes supplies in there but the lancets predominate.

I change my lancet about twice a year. I have about a thousand in my closet. With every meter, you get free ones. I’ve had well-meaning people give me some. When my father-in-law died, I inherited about 500 from him.

Most of the boxes are open and the lancets are constantly spilling all over the floor. My cats are entertained by knocking the boxes over and scattering lancets throughout the house. Sanitary! I keep expecting to find some in the litter box.

So the other day I was at a spa getting a facial. I saw a box of lancets on the aesthetician’s table. Apparently they use them at the spa to do facial extractions. (I wonder if she reuses lancets for six months… eew!?)

This got me thinking: are there alternative uses for lancets other than finger pricking?

Splinter removal.

bullitin board pins and they work well for pinning out stached doilies (yes some of us still do that)

Toothpick? Blow darts? I’m right there with you Lara. I have more lancets then you could ever imagine. I tell them to stop sending them to me and i still get so many boxes. I just recently gave 12 boxes away to a friend who doesn’t have the best insurance. I know JDRF or other support groups will take them to give to others if you won’t use them. - aimee

I had the same problem too and then stopped filling the prescription and now I have had a prescription for several years. I also gave some away as well to a family friend.
