Type 1 diabetes is not one but two distinct conditions, defined by diagnosis age

It only matters what kind you have if that influences the way a doctor treats you as a person and how they react to YOUR diabetes.

In a perfect world, doctors would base their treatment of your diabetes on what you actually need.

I have no problem with a doctor who doesn’t figure out I have Type 1 at first. As long as the doctor changes his/her approach when things change for me, that’s cool.

Lol yep, just stupid. It is already hard enough for me to explain to doctors that I am a type 1 adult diagnosed later in life in DKA.Either you have autoimmune diabetes type one or you don’t, end of story.

Thank you for sharing your experience. It is appalling that the adults in your life didn’t recognize your situation. Thank goodness for the school nurse.
