Type 1 son - trying to convince to go on pump

Have him watch some YouTube videos of kids wearing the OmniPod pump. And go on the OmniPod site and have him read about well-known athletes who use the OmniPod. My daughter loves her OmniPod: no tubing, no need to wear anything but the Pod (don't have to wear the PDM), no need to disconnect for swimming or other water sports. My daughter would not even consider a tubed pump!

Leave you husband at home next time. My husband just doesn't "get it" and never will, so my daughter and I approach her T1D as if I'm a single parent. More work for me, but big payoff with the fact that I get to make all the decisions (along with my daughter, of course!) Hang in there!

Hello, I have just joined the group myself and have immediately found this interesting discussion. I am very much interesting in your opinions on insulin pump. It's great so many of you have been posting pros and cons. Our son is 8,5 years old and has diabetes since he was 2 years old. We were first on injections, now we have pen shots and his doctor never even considered suggesting us the pump. I know it's expensive and all, but she says our son is very active and she doesn't see him with a pumo. I will read more closely all of the replys as I have noticed of Omnipod pump, don't know anything about isulin pumps, so thank you for suggestions. We live in Croatia and I am sad we don't have too many of Diabetes Camps, if there are any it's when kids are a bit older and only few can go. Glad to be a part of the site. hope to learn more.

I just joined this community and found this to be an interesting topic. My son is 9 and was diagnosed a little before his third birthday. He's been on an Animas pump since he was 3½ years old. I guess since he doesn't remember being on shots we've never fought the pump issue.

We've run into a few incidents where the pump is just plain inconvenient. Always having to find things with pockets or making him wear a pump case is difficult sometimes. Also, while sleeping he gets skin irritation from the belt that his pump case is attached to. We've tried the clip-on cases but they always come off and when he rolls around it gets all tangled.... Not fun.

I'm actually all for being done with the pump due to many issues with Animas over the last 6 years, but my ex doesn't want to have to do math and figure out ratios and stuff so we're sorting all that out now. I'm leaving it up to my son on whether he wants to stick with the pump or go to shots.

I look forward to reading another update to see how things continue to go and I'm glad to read that your son is happy with his pump.
