Type 1 Teen with a Positive Attitude Leads to Living Without Boundaries

When I was a HS kid, I was into sports! I rode horses, three day eventing and fox hunting. Lacrosse and hockey, running in my free time and during the winter, cross country skiing. I never felt restricted by my diabetes, probably more restricted by the lack of time to do more of the things I loved!

In recent years, I have been in charge of outreach for JDRF Capitol Chapter and some of the issues I see with teens has been disheartening. I have a hard time relating to purposely missing insulin, it would never have occurred to me since what I most wanted twas to be active and involved with my friends! My parents never harped on the diabetes, they harped on homework and inspired me to push in my athletic fun and I think it was a winning recipe. I’ve had diabetes 39 years with no side effects.

Recently, a young blogger wrote an intro on Diabeteens and I realized I was reading about a great person, whose testing her limits with tremendous success! So many of us can take lessons from this young voice! Read for yourself and feel empowered! I also encourage you to leave her a remark about what she brings to the table just being Anna! http://www.healthcentral.com/diabeteens/c/753408/71336/introduction/?ic=4020
