Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone would share what their typical schedule was for visits throughout their pregnancy with their OB/Endo/Other Specialists for your pregnancy? When I had Baby #1, I was not diabetic, and it was a fairly routine pregnancy, so I did the once a month thing, then every 2 weeks at about 25 weeks, and then once a week for the last trimester.
Trying to get an idea of how many times a month I’ll be at the Doc’s for my next pregnancy and what will happen at these appointments. I know everyone’s experience is different, but if you are willing to share how your prenatal appointments were scheduled and what you did, I would love to hear about it!
Thanks,
Kate
(mom to M, 22 months and hoping for a sibling soon!)
I’m a Type 2 with a A1C at 5.3 and they are doing about the same thing. Once a month till about 25, then every 2 weeks, then once a week. Same as with you the first time. BUT you do have to expect a bunch of NST test after about week 28. I think my doc said once a week for that for a while, and then after week 30 twice a week. Depending on your office you might be able to combine a NTS apt with a regular check up day. Those NTS apts are basically about an hour long of you lying on your back with monitors on the baby.
HI!
I do not have any children…yet, but I talked to my regular doctor and endo and they had me join a high risk OB. I met with the OB and went over some tests that they would like to perform prior to trying to have a baby and what vitamins I should take. I started taking the vitamins right away. We also talked about when I would have to go in for appointments once I am pregnant. The OB did say that it is different for every diabetic, but we go more often all through the pregnancy. I hope this helps.
ok, gotcha. I had to do a ton of NST’s at the end of my first pregnancy too, because the baby was measuring too small. Those will be trickier this time around with a toddler in tow!
I posted a record of my visits on my blog. It was more for my own records because I wanted to be able to reference it for the next time around.
Hi I’m type 1 and the way it went for me was right from the begining I began to see my Endo once every two weeks. This would continue through the rest of the pregnancy. I also had to see the ophtamologist every three months, so that made about 2 visits during this pregnancy. Cardiologist once. Regular OB @ 8 weeks, then every 4 weeks until around 25 weeks, then every two weeks there after. Hi Risk OK, I saw at 12 weeks (i think), then at 16, then at 20, then 24, then 28, then 32 (which I am now) and from now on I will see this doctor once ever week until the end for biophysical/stress tests on the baby. Meanwhile, I know my regular OB appointments will end up being once a week as well, but I am not sure when I will start that. Needless to say… you’ll be in the docs office a whole lot. A good idea would be to see your high risk ob as your primary (if that is even possible)…maybe that would cut down the amt of diff offices you have to visit. Unfornately, I have two and they work in conjunction with eachother. My Hi Risk place only does my ultrasounds.
I am a 35 week with T1… the short report on how my second job (aka doctors appointments) are going…
1st trimester -
Endo: once a month, faxed in blood sugars once a week, spoke to nurse once a week: OB: once a month; Eye Doctor: One Time
2nd Trimester -
Endo: once a month, faxed in blood sugars once a week, spoke to nurse once a week. OB: once every three weeks; High Risk Fetal Monitoring (aka) ultrasound once a month. Eye Doctor: one time
3rd Trimester
Endo: Every three weeks, Fax blood sugars every three days, speak to nurse twice a week. OB: twice a week, On Tuesdays I get a NST ( none stress test) and on Friday’s I get an ultrasound. High Risk Fetal Monitoring is still once a month.
So far ( knock on wood) the pregnancy has been perfect… with the exception of the EXTREAME swelling…, the third trimester takes a ton of work… it really does become a second job, but it is so worth it!
Hope this helps
Endo-once a month through out the pregnancy. During difficult stretches I’d email my blood sugars and dexcom logs and he’d get back to me the next day.
OB/GYN-1st Trimester was once a month, including ultrasound. 2nd Trimester-Every 2 weeks. Ultrasound once a month. 3rd Trimester-Twice a week for NST. Once a week for a visit with the Dr and an ultrasound.
