@DD86 Gestational diabetes can set off type 1 too.
There are a few antibody tests and sometimes they only test GAD, which is the most common. So do check to see what you were tested for. Get copies!!! Interpretations can vary.
The other test needed is C-Peptide That tells you how much insulin you are making and low or low normal is a sign of type 1. High or high normal being a sign of insulin resistance and type 2.
There are a few cases that someone tests negative on antibodies but they donāt produce insulin. My DE, diabetic educator is one of those. Those fit into the group of type 1 of we donāt know why. Possibly not knowing an antibody to test for. And of course MODY which you said they are checking for.
Good luck, it can be a very frustrating experience.
Hello, I still do not have a clear diagnosis, but admittedly kinda gave up on it because I appear to be healthy otherwise and blood sugar only appears to be a minor problem sometimes. We moved and had a lot of life events take place, so now that Iām settled, I plan to follow up on this after this horrible COVID outbreak.
Thank you both! No doubt a frustrating experience to not understand the next steps for my health.
My doctor took all possible antibody tests (4 or 5 I believe) ā twice now! All negative. My c-peptide is low at ~.67 ng/ml fasting.
So yes, it appears to be some sort of Type 1 or Mody based on my appointments. I will be doing the Mody testing next week as they seem to think itās a possibility.
@HollyOrr15 sorry to hear you still have blood sugar issues but glad to hear they arenāt too large of a problem. I agree, itās tough dealing with this type of stuff once the little ones come along.
