Ups and downs

"I have a friend that was diagnosed with type 2 last year. Now this week he is in the hospital with hypoglycemia? does this happen often? ."

Being hospitalized with T2 for hypoglycemia (being too low) is odd. It is much harder as a T2 to really mess up medication. It would probably take a serious insulin error to do this. Are you sure they weren't hospitalized for hyperglycemia (being too high)?

It was hypo and I thought that was really odd, because the hospital had problems getting his levels back up. finally put him in ICU

If he was on a sulfonylurea drug or insulin that can cause a hypo. Many people with T2 take oral medications that don't really pose any hypo risk. Did you friend make an error when dosing their insulin?
