In one of these threads, Alan had an excellent reference for the effect of time on A1c. It’s supposed to look at the average over the last 90 days but, in reality, the past 30 days has a much greater impact. So, I’d buy a couple of A1c Now test kits and track A1c for 4 months to see if there are any trends.
Most definitely the glucose meter, and most definitely the GTT. Those 2 are a MUST. Like I said, the A1C is really NOT the best tool for pre-diabetics. Just stick to the Glucose meter and a GTT.
appreciate all the great answers i’m getting here. just heard back from the doctors’ office and it shows that i had a fasting blood glucose of 117. an A1c of 5.6. low vitamin D and low testosterone.
The PA whom i spoke to was confused as to why i was even worried about becoming diabetic and characterized the FBG and A1c levels as “good.” Looks border line if not worse though from what i’m reading on the net.
What do you guys make of these results?
A while ago they used fasting blood sugar to diagnose and anything from 100-125 was considered pre-diabetes. Today the A1C is considered the diagnostic standard and pre-diabetes is diagnosed from 5.7 to 6.4. So you are just below that. So to me, I would consider it a good time to make some changes such as diet, exercise and weight loss if needed, and just to keep an eye on it going forward.
it was 117
