Wearing the pump while pregnant

Hi girls,

I'm looking for acvice from anyone out there who has gone through pregnancy with a pump. I'm on the Accu-chek spirit. Its one of those with a tube. I'm wondering how you wore or wear your pump? I have always put it in my bum pocket but its getting a bit tight in there now! Also, most of the over bump trousers that I have seen dont have back pockets where I could put it anyway!

I do have a clip thing that I have always stuck in the middle of my bra pre-pregnancy but now that the boobs are getting bigger (no harm there!) it doesnt sit there properly. I cant clip it to the top of the trousers because they are over bump...

At the moment, the bras I have bought are slightly big and I put the pump in between the boobs in the middle. I know that this is NOT at all where insulin should go because of the heat but its the onle place at the minute!

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had or is having this problem?

Thanks,

Naomi

Hi, Im pregnant and pump… Well personally i have always wore my pump in my bra without the clip. perhaps I am just used to having it there so it doesnt bother me as much. In the begining of the pregnancy when I was more sore, I did relocate it to my pocket a few times. It might not be flattering, but I say clip it to the pants or stick it in the pocket. I usually put my site in my upper thigh or my back/side…I try to stay far from my belly as possible.

Is is ok to put it IN the bra? I just presumed it wasnt good because of the heat! I’ll wear it there without guilt knowing someone else does, thanks!

I’ve never heard that it wasn’t good to wear it in the bra. My doctors know I wear it there and never say anything about it. I haven’t found that the insulin doesn’t work or anything like that. However, I am not sure if there is a rule against it, so you may want to check with your pump customer service. I do know that the last nurse that trained me on my upgraded pump did say that its actually advisable to keep the vial that you are using at room tempature instead of fridgerated because it creates less air bubbles. Probably a good idea to just put in a call to the customer service people, they are usually very helpful.

Anywhere its comfortable is fine. When I was pregnant I just clipped it to the back of my prego pants, toward the small of my back. It’s less noticable there. You should change your site/resavoir after 3 days to help keep absorbition rates the same.

I put my pump on a clip and wore it on the side of my pants waistline, like a beeper. The habit stuck, I still wear it there. Easier to access since I don’t use a remote.

Thanks Cara. Unfortunately, I have been wearing “over the bump” trousers so there is nothing to hang it off at the waistline. I’ll have to continue with the back pockets or the bra I think, thanks!
