Well I tried it - infusion site in left boob

WOW! You certainly "go where no one has gone before." At least no one I have ever had contact with.

I agree that the new area makes insulin work more efficiently and a bit faster. When I started using my arms last fall, I saw a marked improvement in results in the virgin sites.

Great double entendre, Artwoman.

I should mention that I did a self-exam maneuver to be sure that I was entering fatty (adipose) tissue rather than glands. And fortunately the cannula on the comfort detach sets is very very short. I didn't want to do the angled sets with their much longer guide-wires (which to me are big honkin needles)

I have to give you credit for having the courage to try the 'girls' as your infusion site. I had read on the Internet about another lady trying this and she had good luck too. I might try it when I can muster the courage. :)

I'm tempted after seeing Kris Freeman but I've been working out and my pecs are getting ripped. It may happen sometime. It seems like it'd be really convenient!

Can you put an infusion site in your boob? I'm running out places to insert. Where. I've asked my endo and he's not very helpful.

No wonder your Endo isn't very helpful (on this)_ He's a HE. Anyway, I've now used both "girls" twice. For my body, I figure I can use (visualizing a clock) 2:00 - 10:00. As I said in my first post, I use a 90 degree set, it is shorter (much shorter) than the angled cannulas. I can tell that it is "virgin" territory, really good numbers. I'm not large breasted by any means, but it works. (I kinda sound like a commercial now)

Kris Freeman!

Whoa! I couldn't place mine at "noon" like that - as a woman, a bit too bony. But he's gorgeous (just like you AR!)
I think that perhaps the endo cited above couldn't help due to concern about hitting a gland which would make it painful.

I am not sure that it is true that "most type 1's aren't insulin resistant." Duration of T1 is a factor. The longer you have diabetes, talking many years here, the more likely the T1 can get insulin resistance. That is why quite a few of us long timers are also on Metformin. It helps with ins resistance in T1. I am not taking time to run to scientific literature but my Endo is quite knowledgeable.

Nell, I agree that developing insulin resistance is a possibility with type 1. There is also the fact that having type 1 doesn't make a person immune to type 2's insulin resistance if type 2 runs in one's family. Wouldn't it be lovely if there was a quota system in place - you know if you have one thing, you're immune to others?

Is there anything I need to be aware of with regards to hitting something I shouldn't on the boob? I'm a tad confused about the 10 and 2 thing you described. If it wasn't you, I apologize. I'm having some difficulty getting around the site. I haven't used it much and I'm finding it confusing.

Jewels, I tried to describe the positioning of the infusion as the face of a clock. I you look at yourself in a mirror, imagine the numbers of a clock around the outside of the boob. Placed the set (so far) where 2:00 would be and where 10:00 would be. Based on self-exams (yeas, I do them - I'm a good girl) I find that the glands etc are more towards the center, and the straight-in metal cannula is so short the likelihood of me hitting something I don't want to hit is slim. I am somewhat small chested, so I can easily detect where glands etc are, and I would think if a woman had larger "girls" she would have more sites.

Hope this helps.

I don't use a pump, but after I ran out of fat on my thighs I started using my boobs for injections. It doesn't hurt at all, but it bugs the heck outta my little brother. ;) Not that he watched, but I mentioned it. He thinks my earlobes would be better sites.

Ooooh I love the "brother gross-out potential" I'll have to let my brother know about it. Heh heh heh. I guess you'd just have to be careful to use each "girl" equally...

He's at a funny age where, if any girl is even in her underwear in a movie, he hides under a blanket or leaves the room. Once we were watching a TV show and a woman was sleeping in a T-shirt and panties, and even that made him hide.

Grossing him out is a lot of fun. Sometimes I try to use his shoulder as something to pinch up fat in my arms to do a shot.

There is this one place on the body where men used to place needles and it hurt like heck. I will not be placing any cannula near that place ever. As we say where I grew up I done did my time and I ain’t goin back. EVER AGAIN. LOL

In all seriousness my poor daughter in law had an abscess from nursing and it took a month and tons of antibiotics to overcome. If that set starts to hurt you have got to get it out. Such wounds can be very dangerous.

Just saying.

I've had two breast cysts that got "angry" a few years ago. Even though it hadn't really occurred to me to try an infusion set there, I did ask the specialist about the possibility. As long as I stay on the outside perimeter, I would be fine. But thanks for the concern.

Again rick, do we really need to see this again ? JK, I appreciate the voice of reason and caution. I will not be putting a pod or dexcom sensor anywhere near the "girls" although I have heard some pretty favorable reviews. But for now can we go back to the photo of Kris Freeman :)please ?

I took the picture down so that awful sight need not be viewed. I posted it because I do truly understand the pain and cannot imagine one risking said pain anywhere near a spot so delicate. For me at least, no pump site will go near my manmeries. (intentional misspelling) Anyway I will depart this discussion and leave the whole affair to those far more qualified to discuss it.

I wish each of you ladies well, but please, the hole did not heal, the scar remains and I am left with the pain and scar of that memory and two others. I caution once again, just because you can, does not mean you should.

With that notion I bid you fine ladies ado and wish each of you well.

Rick
