What to do before eating with high blood sugar

I so hear you about not wanting something attached all the time. I was about 22 years in and my husband & I wanted to try and have a child but couldn’t get the overnight sugars in a good place. I was on 5 injections at the time. My endo said the only way to really get them where they need to be is a pump. She never pushed but said we had done everything else so pump was it. Six months of hell trying to get it to work. I so wanted to throw it out the window. But I had really thought it was going to cure everything and it doesn’t. All that being said, I love my pump and the flexible lit gives me. I love not having to get up in the morning. I love not having to eat if I don’t want to. And I love that making basal changes is so darn easy!
Pumping comes with a whole bunch of problems. Yes I have had infusion set problems but it’s not usually the pump but the infusion set. (Going back to metal sets). Still need to test, still need to count carbs. It is not a vacation. And a lot more attention to site management. But I do believe the pump is one of the reasons we have two beautiful children. That and a great medical team and a lot of hard work.
I think finding the right team who can handle a high risk pregnancy is the key. And not beating yourself up when a high happens. Highs are not horrible for the baby. It’s the long running highs that are. So if you have a high, treat it and move on. I would have loved to have a CGM when I was pregnant. It is my favorite tool right now and it could really help you fine tune your insulin doses.
Good luck and keep us posted.

i now take humalog and tujeo at night to cover me
so nice to see you too
it is a pain in the neck with the pen and i miss the pump so much
