When travelling - need less insulin?

Here’s a strange situation…

I’ve gone on a few trips recently… from Connecticut I drove to Vermont and New Hampshire a couple times, and I also flew to Florida. When I’m in these new places, I need WAY less insulin. I’m in Florida, and I’ve stopped taking my basal altogether (I only need about 6 units of Lantus anyway, but back in CT I’ll quickly go up if I don’t take insulin). When I was in Vermont a couple weeks ago, I was going low all the time. And I almost never go low. They’re all pretty relaxing trips, so I don’t think it’s stress, though being in a new place could cause some form of stress. I’m eating mostly the same foods and I sleep about the same. Vermont was freezing, Florida is warm as can be. Cleaner air? I’m stumped.

Any experience with this? Is it normal?

maybe it’s the alertness of your trip while your driving? just a guess. Maybe when you go through different time zones you need different units of insulin. LOL
