Why is Progress Toward a Cure for Type 1 Diabetes So Slow?

I tried to post a link last night from my cell phone about synthetic islets. When I get back to my computer later today I’ll try to find the story about it and post a link

I was a personal friend of the tuberculosis consultant physician who treated the sailor for tuberculosis in 1959, which is how I came across the story.

Interesting conversation. My take on why progress toward a cure for diabetes is so slow is related to economics. I believe the problem is that if a cure for diabetes were found and people were treated successfully, all of the companies selling diabetes related products would no longer have a reason to exist. This is my own opinion, and a sad belief as I am in the healthcare field myself. Multi-billion dollar companies would be put out of business. I think this is why research is related to better equipment and supplies rather than a true cure. Let’s create an artificial pancreas rather than cure the disease. As I said just an opinion.
