Would love to hear stories and experiences about Type 1 and Kidney issues

I'm a 39 year old with Type 1 for about 16 years. Much of those 16 years in denial about the whole thing. Not until recent years have I started to really take control, however as of late I've been running in to problems, latest of which is kidney function. I'm scared. And I'd like to hear about anyone who has run in to kidney problems and successfully dealt with it or turn it around.

It took me more than 20 years to get from early stages of kidney disease to needing dialysis. This was back in the day before ace inhibitors and knowledge of kidney issues. I took good care of my glucose levels, kept well hydrated, and cut down on animal protein somewhat and salt too. I did spend a year on dialysis but got my kidney from my cousin in 2002. Things have been stable ever since.

Feel free to ask me any questions about the process.
