Zocor (Simvastatin) Users Take Note: FDA Places New Warning Label on Zocor

A lot of diabetic are rx’d Zocor or its generic form, Simvastatin, so this Health Day article by Steven Reinberg may be of interest. I was rx’d Simvastatin (40mg) for years, but I recently discontinued it due to unpleasant side effects I was experiencing. My cardiologist was in agreement with my discontinued use when I explained the issues I was having. Anyway, the FDA has just announced that high doses of Simvastatin increase the risk for skeletal muscle damage (myopathy). They cite two recent studies that drew similar conclusions. The FDA is recommending that doctors no longer rx new patients the higher dosage 80mg tablet.
