I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in February of 1958 - not sure of the exact date. Took morning injections of Regular Iletin/beef insulin produced by Eli Lily. After 8-9 years, developed an allergic reaction to this beef insulin. Was prescribed Lentard insulin. After that was taken off the market, went to Humulin L. Then added Humalog. Lantas was next. Took Lantas in the morning and added Exubera inhaled insulin with each meal. Joined MannKind Compassionate Care Study Trial at the DRI in Miami in September 2009. In June 2010, I had my first [and only] C-Peptide test with a reading of 0.45. My life had been a constant watch for high and low reactions accompanied by the mental and emotional strain. Today, with the advent of Afrezza, I am a very, very lucky person. For 5 1/2 years I have not had to take any insulin injections. I exercise daily, count carbs, test BG 5 - 6 times a day. My last A1C was 6.8%..
