Diabetes does not control or define me; I control and self-manage Diabetes. Diagnosed with Insulin-dependent Juvenile Diabetes in a Young Adult, November 1970. Hospitalized in ICU for 13 days with severe Diabetic Ketoacidosis, extreme weight loss, and critical dehydration. Started U-40 Beef-Pork R and NPH insulin with multiple daily injections (MDI), training in use of glass syringes, self-care. Started early Exchange Lists, urine tablet glucose testing, manual intake-out, BG logs, menu selection and dietary intake tracking. I determined to learn everything possible to self-manage Diabetes. Daily consultations with Resident Physician, Endocrinologist, Dietitian, Nutritionist, and RN staff. IV saline rehydration and insulin injections. Since those early days my learning continues with pro-active self-management. I suggested to my physician splitting NPH into AM and PM injections to reduce overnight or AM hypoglycemia. Early adopter of U-80 Beef-Pork R and NPH, progressing to U-100 R and NPH, then current rDNA human insulin. Now using Novolog. Created spreadsheet Glucose log book. Later Beta Tested SINOVO's SiDiary for PC (SD-PC), Blackberry, Microsoft PocketPC, then Android (SDA). Use SiDiary multi-platform applications on my Windows 8.1 PC, Android 4.2.1 smartphone and synchronize with secure account with SiDiary On-Line (SDO). Easy to use but powerful Diabetes Self-Management software. Free, subscription, or license keys available. For more information or download: http://www.sinovo.net.
