Jen they do get horrified if they know that. But as I reminded a CDE a few times, folks woudl be more horrified if I took my pants down to inject in certain circumstances. Wow I am even horrified at the thought of that. LOL
I know when I licked my finger after testing at my cde's office one time she was like I HAVE TISSUES YOU KNOW!!! and I was like I don't need those? lol Also I uncap my lancet to get my finger to bleed (I always have I didn't know people used the cap on it until a while later and I'm just like oh...I'll just keep doin' what I'm doin'...) and reuse my lancets forever.
I don't inject through my clothes, I feel like that'd leave me with a messy bloody disaster or just a poor injection.
When I was doing pump training I went to fill a cartridge without washing my hands, and the the nurse threw a bottle of hand sanitizer at me and was like, "Please wash your hands for Nurse XX just for now!!" LOL. I figure she was probably liable if I got some sort of disease or infection from not washing my hands filling a cartridge in the hospital, so I did just that once (though I do it at home as well ... sometimes).
My cde threw the tissues at me so I should of pointed that out we have a similar-ish story. I don't know if they realize no matter what some of us are just...resourceful...and rather just lick blood off our fingers. I will get something to clean insulin off my hands though (or just wash them) because I've accidentally tasted insulin and that was not very pleasant.
Also, I know this violates all sorts of common wisdom, best practices, etc. etc. etc., but I gotta say: I do have an immune system, and it does a pretty darn good job with the routine cuts/scrapes/insect bites/etc.
I mean really. The injury from a 4mm needle is massively less than cuts I inevitably get while working on my car. If my body can handle that without going into "hair on fire" immunohysteria, I feel pretty good about it handling me licking a finger stick, or whatever happened to be on my otherwise clean body when I stick it with a tiny needle.
