ACTOS vs. Metformin

I would never take either Actos or Avandia they are very unsafe meds & in fact have warnings on them. Metformin is one of the oldest, safest, cheapest drugs & has many other advantages: helping hearts, cancer & building beta cells. 500 mg is the smallest dose possible & is usually rx'd only as a starter dose. You usually start increasing the dose as you get used to the drug. I take 1000 mg twice a day.

You may or may not already know this but, Metformin takes 2 to 3 months to really start working…My doctor explained it to me this way. “The Metformin you take today won’t start to show results until 2 to 3 months from now”…Just a piece of information I thought I would throw out there.

For myself, it caused too much fluid retention and shortness of breath. I cannot take it. I may be unique but if you experience anything unusual, look up those side effects. I am on Janumet. It works well for me.

@Cheri1, I realize that this is an old thread from Apr '11. I am curious about your experience with DHEA and CoQ10. Please share the benefits for you. Thanks in advance!

The supplements can offer some help with conditions, but they vary by person. It can be useful to try adding one supplement at a time to your regimen. Take it for a month then take a month off and see if your numbers/condition improve or not.
