ADA Introduce Yourself

I don’t think this is just MN. Will someone click the link and verify that your state shows up?

"We need your help to educate legislators about diabetes during this legislative session.

We are asking that you reach out to your state legislators and introduce yourself. Sharing your personal story with legislators provides a constituent connection to diabetes, and may help inform their policy work on issues that impact you and others in your state!

We have prepared draft language for you to introduce yourself and share some essential information about diabetes. Sending a message is easy! Click on the red button and fill in your contact information to complete the message."

P.S. If you are struggling to pay for insulin or know someone who is, the ADA has resources to help. Visit InsulinHelp.org.

Here’s the ADA campaign.

Looks like they only have lobbyists in some states.

Interesting. I wonder why.

Looks like they are working on pushing the copay caps into private policy. That’s been going on for years. For some reason, you always push stuff thru Medicare in order to set precedence, and then onto private policy. It takes FOREVER. A lot of states already have this as state law, but not everybody.

I just emaled ADA asking why 33 states plus DC are not on the Diabetes Advocacy page

Good question, Luis3. Thanks for taking the initiative. It will be interesting to find out!

I got a boiler plate response about ADA services and advise. Still waiting for an actual response. I’ll be glad to update if I get anything.:star_struck::confounded:

I worried about that. Maybe we can figure it out on our own.

These are the states they list (highlighted in pale yellow):

Maybe they have sponsored a bill in each of these states?

They might have a regional offices in CO and AZ.

North Carolina had a bill in the Senate w/ ADAs fingerprints all over it (2024 – 2025 session), the Affordable Access to Insulin Act.

New Mexico has passed a ton of legislation that could be ADA. For instance, they were the 3rd state in the nation to do copay caps on insulin. New Mexico Becomes Third State to Cap Monthly Insulin Co-Pays | American Diabetes Association But I can’t confirm they have any bills currently pending there.

North Dakota currently has a bill (HB 1114) related to, " health insurance benefits coverage of insulin drugs and supplies," that has been referred to committee in the House.

This bill might be ADA, but they aren’t called out specifically. They only say, “advocates.” But that’s ADA sometimes. They mention $25 copay caps, which I always assume is ADA because I think they pushed that first in CO (where their regional office for the Midwest is).

Here is a map of all the states that have implemented $25 copay caps…which ADA likes very much.
