Advice for insurance appeal, CGM

Yes, and believe it or not I are an Eagle scout…I am waiting for the actual medical policy to arrive, I’ve requested it several times from the insurer. They seem to say that low BG is below 50 according to their policy, which makes no sense to me. I’ve never measured BG below 50 and don’t ever want to, based on how I felt in the mid 50’s about 18 months ago.

I already turned in 6 weeks worth of logs including BG’s occasionally in the 60’s and over 200 several times per week. I had logs proving that one evening about 90 minutes after some intense exercise I dropped over 100 in one hour. Anyway, their stance seems to be that wild and dangerous BG fluctuations are NOT “unexplained” because they are explained by an active lifestyle.

Oh well, I will keep plugging away at the red tape and will update if anything changes with further appeals, reviews, etc. I am now using the CGM so this only affects my bank account at this point, plus all the other people they can deny using this bogus medical policy. The good news is the CGM works great and I have already made some good tweaks to basal and time of bolus to improve time in range and get closer to flatline. All is well on that front and I agree that CGM is a game changer.
