Alcohol? help?

i’m going to say this…if you feel the need to go out and drink once in a great moon PLEASE be sure to take your meter, test frequently and take insulin accordingly. also always have someone with you who knows you well and knows your diabetes well and knows what to do in an emergency!! i occasionally drink at bars and i enjoy it but i’m very cautious. my best friend also is a type one so i lucked out in having a buddy who understands what’s going on. we hardly ever drink together…we just take turns taking care of each other. my suggestion also is to not get plastered. you need to know when to stop and have the willpower to do so.

but i agree with you! i am about 2 months from turning 21 and i live in DC which is a huge drinking cene at my university. my bf goes to school in miami and is about to turn 22 and RARELY ever drinks. on his 21st bday we went out to dinner and he ordered all of 1 drink (granted he is not a diabetic)

I have always been allowed alcohol growing up since i was about 8. part of my family is from canada and when we go there i have been allowed to drink since i was 18 or 19 depending on the province. BUT i don’t go crazy. There is no point and it is NEVER worth the risk diabetic or not.
Everyone needs to have some self control and being legally allowed to drink does NOT = GO CRAZY just because you can now

I still have a drink or two. What I was told- drink in moderation- have diet in the drink, no juice drinks. I use to black out alot before I knew I was diabetic, even after a few drinks. Stay away from the sweet drinks and always have food!
