consider eating morning star foods - high in protein, low in carbs.
alos, st. josheph’s wraps… 100 calories, 10 gr carbs - AWESOME!
I eat dannon fat free yogurt with All Bran extra fiber cereal. Fiber REALLY helps me. Cliff bars have been fair to me due to the amount of fiber in them.
People have also mentioned moderation. I work at a ben and jerry’s with type 1… I just eat as much that can fit on a taster spoon out of a kiddie size cup 1/2 filled with fruit and1/2 filled with frozen yogurt.
WALK whenever you can - it does wonders for the blood sugar readings =)
I’m sorry, Shirlee. I had to give up my AM mango berry smoothie…broke my heart. I’ve just had my 2nd night’s horrible reading after bing cherries…the list goes on and on…
I make a berry smoothie with almond milk. Can’t manage the mangos but it’s nice with raspberries or blueberries. Almond milk has 3g carbs per cup and is sweeter than soy.
I buy it at the moment. I am hoping this summer to start making it but haven’t had time yet. I get the Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Unsweetened Regular or Vanilla, and they make a Chocolate too. It’s a bit expensive but worth it to have something dairy-like without all the carbs. I eat a higher fat diet but draw the line at a whole cup of cream, though I do add a splash in my smoothie for a creamier taste.
For each person, I think there are different foods we can’t mangage. I can eat bananas just fine and haven’t tried the rest of those. But I have really cut back on rice and potatoes since dx.
Bingo! All of these boards I come onto the people are soooooo restrictive with their diet. As a male my nutritionist put me on a 2,200 calorie/day diet & wants me to eat 60-75 grams of carbs per meal. In fact I told her I like PB&J toast for breakfast and her only concern was that maybe I should add an egg. I had been well under controll on oral meds since 2001 and then 7 months ago they seemed to stop working. So I tried Byetta, great for weight but didn’t contol glucose levels at all. So I stopped Byetta & Actos and went on Lantus. It did’t work by itself, so I Just added Novalong a month ago. The bolus concept seems to be working well with me, whether I have 40 carbs or 125 carbs at a meal (try hard not to do that). I have lost 35 pounds over last 4 months and if I am not sick (lot of sinus issues which sends me sky high) I am feeling much better. I do think I would like to go on the pump though, because I can’t seem to do injections other than stomach and I don’t want to ruin that area.
You mention dual wave bolus. Do you mean you do the before and then do it later after eating? I am new to Novalog and the Bolus concept so I am looking for advice in that regard. Somtimes 3 hours after eating I expect the leves to be low and I get 180’s. So my thought is, should I take another bolus? I have also heard it acts for 5 hours and that the glycemic index means some foods take longer to be absorbed, so I have worried about going low if I do this. I am also a horrible snacker at night about hour or two befor bed and Lantus injection. So if I eat at 6:00 with bolus, have a snack at 8:00 (banana, cereal, 1 pop tart - can’t get rid of the sweet tooth), can I give a bolus if I am going to lantus at 9:30 to 10:00? thanks in advance for input
Sure is Flo. Rabbit is too. Quail, pheasant, deer all are wonderful as well. All low carb too, unless you lather them with mashed potatoes and gravy. Getting hungry!
Such a tough question really… Each of us processes food differently, what may be horrendous for some is easy for others. The food I can’t figure out how to bolus for is Chicago style stuffed pizza. You know, the kind that’s 4 inches thick and packed to the very top with cheese, sauce and various pizza toppings. I LOVE it, but it does not work for me… Ever… I can count on being in the 400 club with that stuff every time!
OMG! You guys are all hysterical! So, I posted a legitimate reply, then went back and read the entire thread. You’re all NUTS!
I’m assuming Lead Paint Chips are the ones being described. Latex paint chips should be fine for type 1’s. I would, however, avoid rusty nails. You wanna talk about a “spike”… And, probably droppings of any kind. They tend to disagree with your digestive tract. Fine on glucose levels, but not so much on the tummy
Sure, “endless quantities” would be a serious never! Foods that have sugar, syrup, frosting, glaze sitting on top (or oozing out of it) in the generic should be avoided like an ancient plague. We can have em but must know their nutritional context to prevent ~sugar whiplash~
