Untethered is a well known solution to the problem of Scuba diving with a pump (where you are going to be detached for significantly longer than one hour).
The difficulties with the 75:25 split shown in the cartoon posted by the OP is that it assumes flat basal insulin requirements. If your basal rates vary, your Lantus dose will necessarily be restricted to around 75% of your lowest hourly rate x 24 hours (otherwise, you are at risk of become hypoglycaemic at these times). In my case, my rates vary from a high of 1.7 to a low of 0.35 u/hr so I would be taking around 3 units Lantus out of a total daily basal of 20 units. That’s fine as a safety net for diving, but hardly worth it as a general strategy.
