Bionic Pancreas Update

The Bionic Pancreas is a single device that determines your blood sugar, and gives you insulin or glucose when needed, without you having to test. Kerri Sparling gives us an update on this device, and tells us about the intended human trials for 2016. This is very exciting!!

Any idea where the 4 trial sites will be?

These may be the four sites, I’m not sure. I also know work with the bionic pancreas has been done at the University of Virginia.

“Damiano and Russell will conduct trials with the University of Massachusetts, Massachusetts General Hospital, Stanford University and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill through 2017. A study in 2016 will look at the impact of using a bionic pancreas on patients over the course of a year.”

Thanks Richard! Unfortunately, I live in the Midwest. Washington University St. Louis sometimes conducts trials in coordination w/ other sites. They were the first to do islet cell transplants. Would be amazing if they are added to the list of sites for the closed loop, bionic pancreas trials. Fingers always crossed!
