Stats unfortunately are always a problem. You can’t basically trust a lot of it. Just use it maybe as a trend.
But with any stat, ask the 5 people you know what they will answer to get the answer you want. This can carry through to almost anything you want to get a stat or a specific result.
And also importantly, if the death rate, for example, is 1 in a million and you are the 1 that died, you are still dead and the statistic is meaningless in your case. The 41 deaths referred to by Ivor was totally accurate based on a Washington Post article, but yes there have been additional deaths since that article was published, however, there have also been additional cases so the ratio has not changed for the worse.
Coronavirus May Be a Blood Vessel Disease, Which Explains Everything
A respiratory virus infecting blood cells and circulating through the body is virtually unheard of
… the use of statins and ACE inhibitors were linked to higher rates of survival. Statins reduce the risk of heart attacks not only by lowering cholesterol or preventing plaque, they also stabilize existing plaque, meaning they’re less likely to rupture if someone is on the drugs
There are more and more studies that show that statins reduce cardiovascular events, not because they reduce your LDL-C but because statins reduce inflammation, which is the only reason I have not yet totally ditched my statin. That seems to be inline with this hypothesis as well.
Over a 28-day follow-up period, statin use was associated with a lower death rate and a lower incidence of mechanical ventilation. Statin use was associated with 5.5% mortality rate, compared to 6.8% without statin use, representing a 19% decrease. When the researchers examined the matched cohort of 861 patients in the statin group and 3,444 patients in the non-statin group, statin use was associated with a 45% decrease in the mortality rate, from 9.4% to 5.2%.
