We are 6 days into kennedy's first dexcom session and we have learned so much.
Wow are our settings OFF! basals too high, carb ratios too low... and on and on.
This thing seems to be so accurate! from day three on, fingersticks are less than a couple points off...
trying to pin down the lag time, seems to be 10 minutes or so??
man where to start? we are trying to set basals first, but there is so much information I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed.
We're probably overcorrecting...
Where do we start??
Did you do basal testing before you had the dexcom?
And have you had a chance to look at the software?
For us, it lags behind a lot when hypo - don’t use it as a way to see if BGs are coming up because you will over treat! Also lags when BGs are rising/falling rapidly but other than that it is awesome. Ella’s sick right now and it has allowed us to pump her full of insulin & not be worried.
Start with basal. Definitely watch for a week, eating safe (low carb) food and then upload the data and take a look at it in aggregate using Studio. You will be able to see where in the day the basal rate needs to be adjusted. Make one adjustment at a time, using a lead time of about 1.5 hrs, and see how things go for the next few days.
Start weighing food using a kitchen scale, eating exact amounts, to see how the carb ratios need to be adjusted to achieve level bg a few hours after eating.
It's great to have *good* data to work from, isn't it?
we did, but its easier to see when its off for sure with dex, I have downloaded software but we havenot done our first download since starting last week, hopefully we can do that friday... and look at the whole week
yes! thanks! will get back after taking a look at things this week, this information is incredible!! a bit overwhelming for us this week
