Dexcom coverage

I’m brand new on Medicare as of August 1. I have parts A and B and then a part D plan. Where/how do the Dexcoms get covered?

The second part of my question is where/how do the Omnipods get covered?

This whole thing is so confusing! Surely there is someone out there who is knowledgeable and can give me some guidance.

Thank you in advance!

Dexcom coverage on Part B seemed pretty straightforward when I started Medicare a few years ago. I called Edwards Healthcare (DME mail order supplier) and they coordinated everything with my endo office. I got a supplement plan to cover the 20% co pay.

Omnipod on Part D: insulet web site has a list of some Part D plans that cover Omnipod. (I would link to it but am not near my laptop today.) I ended up going with a Cigna Part D plan to cover the Omnipod. The medicare plan finder on their website does not list Omnipod coverage so be sure to call the plan and confirm. The coverage is not great but oh well. I think all of us have learned that the “donut hole” is unavoidable no matter which Part D plan you pick.

Here is Insulet’s website relating to Medicare:

For Dexcom I went with US MED. I called them after I went on Medicare and they handled the entire process. I didn’t have to do anything else. Every 3 months I get a text asking me whether I want another 3 month supply. I just have to answer YES and the sensors show up in the mail a little later. Could not be easier.

For Dexcom you can select any provider that can bill Medicare Part B. I think most of the companies on this list can: Wanna "break up" with my Dexcom supplier -- tips? - #21 by spdif Note that I try to include all the companies I’ve found even if they are terrible. You’ll want to bookmark LCD - Glucose Monitors (L33822) which is the details of Medicare CGM coverage and check it every few years.

The durable part of Durable Medical Equipment is more of a suggestion than a literal description of products in the category. Dexcom CGMs are DME because of the receiver. Omnipods are not DME even though they have a controller because Insulet wanted to sell through the pharmacy channel. :man_shrugging:

Insulet’s Medicare Part D plan search tool contains a limited number of plans. If you need to, the comprehensive way to search is use the Medicare plan finder Find a Medicare plan The Medicare search can’t find Omnipod so start with the other drugs you can’t live without or at least your preferred brand of insulin. From the list of plans available to you then you can go to each plan’s website and search the plan formulary for Omnipod.

I get my sensors Part B from Solera/Adapy with no issues and 90 day two day change pods via Silverscript Plus (Aetna). I do have to pay for that Silverscript Plus plan where my husband can use regular Silverscipt with a very very low premium. And he is on 10k a month chemo pills so it makes no sense.
