We often see announcements of a research result that has shown that diabetes has been cured in mice. I think many people feel a bit saddened by the realization that they are not mice and the research may not help at all.
A recent article in Endochrine Pracice titled "Distinctions Between the Islets of Mice and Men: Implications for New Therapies for Type 1 and 2 Diabetes" explores this topic. The authors seem very positive that these mice studies will translate to us humans, but there are reasons to remain a bit dubious.
What do you think? Do you wish you were a mouse? Do you think more research should study diabetes in humans rather than little mice?
