We are traveling to Disney World in a few days and would like to know if anyone has any advise and/or suggestions, do's and don'ts to help me. My 11 year old son was just diagnosed in February. We are still doing injections and will be traveling by plane for at least 3 hours.
Should be little or no issue. I carry apple juice wherever I go including Disney, I use apple juice boxes. I find it easier to carry a few (2-4 through security) and and put a carton of 8 in the checked baggage. I also carry my syringes, insulin, and any other meds. in carry ons. I never let medical stuff out of sight. I also carry a few Koshi bars with me. I like honey almond. All of that for lows. I am not promoting a product, but this is what I carry insulin in while traveling.
While in the park I carry a small over the shoulder holder with apple juice, and I will usually place in it some syringes and insulin if needed. I would maybe use something from these folks to store insulin etc. The cool water folio's are fine. I would look to these folks for items:
When our daughter was diagnosed, the hospital gave us a small square bag with shoulder strap that we used for all of her supplies. Insulin is kept in there (I love the insulin cooler that rick posted) along with an extra set of pump supplies and even syringes for emergency, swabs, her blood glucose kit, extra strips, 3 juices and some crackers. We put the crackers in a small plastic container so they don't get smooshed. The bag has a separate zipper compartment in the front that we use to carry garbage until we get back to the hotel to empty and restock the bag.
This bag goes with her wherever she goes and we encourage her to take care of it. ALSO make sure the bag has contact info in it in case it gets lost!
