Just for the sake of being different… I haven’t seen any reason to split my dose. I take it at night before I go to bed (usually around 11pm) and from what I can tell, it lasts the full 24 hours. I always have nice low numbers in the evening before I go to bed.
Of course, that might be the nightly dose of wine (or, as I call it, ‘winsulin’) that I also tend to take at night…
Oh sure, all the time. At least I used to before I went on the pump. I used to take 110 in a.m. and 110 in p.m. My readings kept creeping up so the DR kept upping my doses.
I would NOT suggest that you split your doses by yourself. Always make medicine adjustments under the aegis of a DR unless he tells you to do it. My DR wants me to be more indepent in that regard, but the nurse never taught me how to do the various bolus tricks. Now I have to get training for that.
hey linda, i take 34 at nite, 6 in the morning, i have diabetic educator to train me and monitor my a1c noumbers, mine are 7.0 now, shooting for 6.5 have great day
I split my Lantus when I was on it, I am now on Levemir. I take 25 units in the morning and 10 units at bedtime. Works great. I have always played around with my insulin and my doctor trusts me to adjust my own doses, etc. I suggest taking less at night in the beginning, preventing dropping too low when you are asleep. Good luck I think that you will do alot better.
