Do any of you split Lantus?

Just for the sake of being different… I haven’t seen any reason to split my dose. I take it at night before I go to bed (usually around 11pm) and from what I can tell, it lasts the full 24 hours. I always have nice low numbers in the evening before I go to bed.

Of course, that might be the nightly dose of wine (or, as I call it, ‘winsulin’) that I also tend to take at night…

I have been splitting Lantus for some time now. 14 in the AM and on average 4 at night. Also take humelog with my meals.

JOHNBEN.

Hi Leona,

I am working on a way to split my dosage. I may wait till this weekend in case I end up with a problem,

since my husband will be home in case something goes awry. I just need better readings since I am also

going through a bad case of the DPS. Thanks Linda

Hi Terrie

I am going to experiment with a 75% am and a 25% dinner dose. I will probably start this weekend so

my husband will be around in case any problems occur. I hope the change works for me. Thanks Linda

Hi Barbra

I’m going to experiment this weekend with a 75/25 split. 75%am and 25% at dinner. If that doesn’t work, I may

try your bedtime dosage. I don’t see my Endo till next month so I’ll see what my results are. Thanks Linda

Hello,

That’s an interesting split. I am on 22 units am, so I may do a trial run of 75% am and 25% dinner. I’m up

every morning when my husbands alarm clock wakes me at 6am so that will be dose 1 and I’ll dose the remaining

around dinnertime at 6pm. March is my next Endo appointment so maybe I’ll find out what dosage schedule works for me by then. Thanks Linda

I split my doses 50/50, it works ok for me.

Linda:

Oh sure, all the time. At least I used to before I went on the pump. I used to take 110 in a.m. and 110 in p.m. My readings kept creeping up so the DR kept upping my doses.

I would NOT suggest that you split your doses by yourself. Always make medicine adjustments under the aegis of a DR unless he tells you to do it. My DR wants me to be more indepent in that regard, but the nurse never taught me how to do the various bolus tricks. Now I have to get training for that.

Good luck.

I split my dose 50/50 and it works alot better. A once a day dose did not last 24 hours whether I took it in the morning or night. I tried both ways.

hey linda, i take 34 at nite, 6 in the morning, i have diabetic educator to train me and monitor my a1c noumbers, mine are 7.0 now, shooting for 6.5 have great day

I split my Lantus when I was on it, I am now on Levemir. I take 25 units in the morning and 10 units at bedtime. Works great. I have always played around with my insulin and my doctor trusts me to adjust my own doses, etc. I suggest taking less at night in the beginning, preventing dropping too low when you are asleep. Good luck I think that you will do alot better.
