^^^ This. For a long time I had this same issue of post-shower CGM readings being really low, but cross-checking with a fingerstick showed it was a CGM issue–something about the shower was throwing it off, and always toward the low direction. So I just came to ignore it. More recent versions of the G6 don’t seem to do this anymore, at least for me.
Tim12: I have cross checked after showering–fingersticks corroborate the G6 reading. Haven’t cross checked before showering–will try that, too. This morning, my BG dropped 67 points in 12 minutes post shower. BG does rebound after 20-30 minutes post shower. My diabetes NP has never heard of this; my endo has been out for a year. Will see endo in October—hoping she has some knowledge on this. (I considered, too, that hot water was throwing off the sensor, but fingersticks seem to indicate otherwise) I am T1 62+ years and on DexCom for 10 years, so not a newbie, just an oldie experiencing new things!
@Lynn17 I used to test before and after with a blood meter before I had my CGM. I was starting to feel really awful and wanted to know why. Literally a 60 point rise would occur. If I try to take a really nice hot shower I will still shoot up. So I either turn it on only for a minute or two and then revert to a more tepid temperature.
I know I talked to my endo about it, I asked her if hers went up or down and I don’t remember if she told me about herself, but she did say it varied person to person. (She was a type 1 too).
