"Extend" Function

Does anyone use the Extend Function?
If you do - when do you use it?
And how do you use it?

I’ve been on the pod for a few months and never used this function - but I think there must be a good use for it if Omnipod put it in the system.

Thanks.

I use it when I’m going to be “grazing”. You know, like at a party with finger foods.

It’s great for when you eat pizza.

It was also explained to me to be helpful when you are eating a high-fat dinner. I guess this type of meal is digested more slowly, so it is helpful to get some of the bolus immediately and some later on.

I use it alot.
if i’m low at the beginning of my meal i just extend my bolus over 1/2 hour.
if i’m eating out (high fat) i will do about 75% up front and extend the other 25% over and hour or more.
if i’m at a party where it’s a “eat at your own pace - finger food” i extend it over how ever long i need to (no upfront bolus)

it does come in handy, i love this feature =)
good luck with its use!

When im at the movies eating nachos and popcorn ect

I have never used it, and I don’t think I will…

I think I need to start using this tool!! I definitly have been having some late highs after eating that I know is from the food!

I use it for almost every meal. Usually 60-80% up front, and the remainder over 1 to 1.5 hours. About the only time I take an entire bolus immediately is when I am eating prior to working out, and then I’m usually only taking 50% of what I would typically need for whatever I’m eating. As others have said, pizza or pasta will only be 60% immediately with the remainder over 2 to 2.5 hours.

Thank you all so much for your answers. You guys are THE BEST!!!
I just spent about an hour on the phone with the Florida Trainer Supervisor.
He was wonderful - and patient.
He explained to me how if a food has lots of fat (say cheese & sausage on a pizza) the fat sorta binds to the carbs - almost making them “time-release carbs.” So if you take part of the bolus immediately - that gets the carbs right away (up to two hours or so) and then the “extended” bolus gets the "time-release carbs."
So - particularly if you are eating something high in fat & protein - using the Extend Function makes good sense.
Hope this makes sense to anyone who wanted to know.

it’s good for things like parties and pizza. Things that either you’ll be eating for a while (grazing) or for foods that take a while to digest due to fat content (pizza).

I use it every time I’m eating out. Every time. Helps counteract the high fat content.
