I am with the Dex4 crowd. I always carry two tubes in my pocket. For me, the skittles, juices, etc take too long to act with the result that I then consume more than I should. Also, I end up feeling really exhausted if I don’t treat as fast and accurately as possible. The biggest problem with the glucose tabs is the space they take up in my pocket.
I recently saw where their were now 1G “mini” glucose tabs from Dex. Has anyone tried these?
Thanks everyone! Gives us all a lot of ideas for things to hide/carry around with us… I’m going to summarize the ideas everyone gave into 3 groups:
1g - skittles, peanut MMs, jelly beans, raisin (you probably have to carry these in a container in your pocket/purse)
5g - Starbursts, Puff peppermints, Glucose tabs (Dex4 highest recommendations for taste, People wanting something
that don’t make overeat like generic brands) , smarties (roll),
15g - (liquid) Small juice pack drinks, Dex4 liquiblast, 8oz skim milk
(solid) - Dried fruits, Pixie Sticks, gummy fruit snacks, weight watchers 1pt bar
25g - baby cokes
no…havn’t seen these…would be nice! what is your favorite Dex flavor? I have been using Smarties because they remind me of childhood, like the flavs better and I can take less…and they remind me of when I was non-diabetic and euglycemic.
I pulled out the bag and compared to Walmart generic glucose tabs and I am paying 0.03/5gms CHO in Smarties vs. 0.08/4gms CHO in glucose tabs. I would have not revisited what I use, except for being prompted by posts on Tu…I like Smarties better…as I do pixies, etc. AND they are cheaper:) Bonus!
I think Dex4 is called Glucotabs in the UK and I’m not wild about the taste. The Dextro Energy orange flavour I could eat all day but you cannot get those in the US. Over here I prefer the Duane Reade own brand tablets with RP stamped on them - these are white labeled for them but I cannot remember by whom.
I live in FL so i find foods that wont melt or explode in the heat- i leave stuff in my truck and also haul it around in my purse.
I also stay away from refined sugar.
Fruit leathers (organic if i want) are really slim and fit in pockets/purse easily
also ive done mini boxes of raisins
Fruit rollups are a nice change but are hard to work with if they start melting
Jelly babies. They are brilliant. Easy to eat in hypo state. Get a mini tupperware (wrong spelling sorry), fill and keep in your bag. Stick a couple in a plastic bag if you are out for the night. The glucose breaks down really quickly.
