Freestyle Libre

Everyone is different and the libre can work for some people and not others.

For me the libre was a disaster. It was always lower than blood by 20-30 points or more. So if it said 60 I did not panic because I knew the blood was probably 90. Finally I got fed up and wanted a more accurate CGM.

My endo put me on the G5 from Dexcom and from day 1 it was always within 5-8% and not always low. I do calibrate it when it is off more than 5% but I never liked the statement that “it was calibrated at the factory”. Like to calibrate it when it is off.

I know for some the libre is the answer for me it was the dexcom.

And I like the Dexcom more as I do not have to wear it on my arm and swipe it for a reading. For me, best of both worlds. I do have some issues. Not perfect but better for me.

I have wanted to use a “REAL” CGM for years but did not qualify. Not to say that the Libre system is not “real”, but it is a “flash” or what I would call a quasi CGM.

I am just tickled pink to have something that gives me more data than just a meter that is impractical for use every 5 or 10 minutes when you are trying to track a postprandial climb.

My experience so far with the Libre system is very similar to yours but I can live with mentally adding 20-30 points to what it indicates. I like being able to see where it peaks and begins a decline.

If I could qualify for a Decxom, I would certainly consider trying it.

Thanks so much for your response to my post. It is very nice to meet you.

Hi Firenza,

I feel like I owe Tony24 an apology for my reaction to his post. I may have been a little overly sensitive when I posted. I just learned yesterday that a very close friend has only days to live. My emotions are a little raw at the moment. The prior day, the prognosis was about 6 months to a year, so this hit me very hard.

Thanks so much for your post. I look forward to communicating with you and others from the community, including Tony24.

I have reviewed many of his posts and it is obvious that his experience and posts are beneficial to the community. I was just not prepared for his tone when I read his post. Being new here, I was not aware that it may just be the way Tony24 writes and not to be taken personally.

I hope we have not gotten off to a bad start and can just chalk it up to me being a newbie here on a day with very raw emotions.

Forget about it - the reason I was directly to the point was that I have posed the same question multiple times and received no replies. I also did not notice you were new to the forum.

Anyway, WELCOME!

You have come to the right place! Lots of great info and folks here!
